Glossary of Pharmacology 

Enteral Drug Administration 

Definition: 
A route of drug administration that involves the gastrointestinal tract (e.g. oral, buccal, rectal, sublingual or via gastrostomy).  
Relevance: 
Drug administration involving the gastrointestinal tract is the most common method of administration. Drugs administered orally and rectally may be subjected to significant first pass metabolism (exception: sublingual or buccal).
