Glossary of Pharmacology 

Parenteral Drug Administration 

Definition: 
A route of drug administration that does not involve the gastrointestinal tract.
Relevance: 
Parenteral routes of administration include intravenous, subcutaneous, intramuscular, intraperitoneal, intrathecal and epidural. Parenteral routes of administration are typically not subject to extensive first pass metabolism.
