Potency

Definition:
The amount of a certain ligand required to produce an effect of a given magnitude. It is usually determined by EC50 which is defined as the concentration or dose of ligand that triggers 50% of maximum effect. A highly potent ligand means that a low dose of the ligand is required to produce the desired effect (low EC50).
