Glossary of Pharmacology

concentration-time curve

Definition:

Graphical representation of a concentration, or dose, of given drug in the systemic circulation (plasma) during certain period of time. It is used for estimating bioavailability variables such as maximum drug concentration in the plasma (Cmax), time between dosing and Cmax (Tmax), and the area under the curve (AUC). These parameters  reflect the extent of absorption and distribution of a given drug.
