SUBMISSION Instructions

CSPT Abstract submissions should fall within the scope of basic and/or clinical pharmacology.

All CSPT abstract submissions should be no more than 250 words and structured to include the following headings: background, objectives, methods, results, conclusions and 3-5 keywords. All CSPT abstracts must be submitted online through the Oxford Abstracts submission site.

Rules for Abstract submission

Abstracts must be submitted online through the Oxford Abstract submission site.
Presentation Type: All abstracts will be submitted for Poster presentations. The top ranked abstracts will also be invited to give an oral platform presentation.
Shell Abstracts (abstracts that provide no data) cannot be submitted. A shell abstract is one that intends to have data but the data are either not collected yet or analyzed yet. Qualitative data are appropriate to submit.
Presenting authors must be registered participants. Only abstracts of authors who have paid their registration fees by the date indicated in the notification email will be scheduled for presentation and included for publication.
The presenting author is required to ensure that the PI/supervisor has read the abstract and that all co-authors are aware of the content of the abstract and agree to its submission, before submitting the abstract.

Our Top Ten Tips on writing your research Abstract

All novel data matters!
If you have novel data, don’t hesitate to submit your abstract. Getting feedback often and from diverse groups will benefit your interpretation and future directions.
Start planning early
Don’t wait until the deadline to write your abstract. As you acquire data, think about how it fits with previous findings, write it down, and adjust your working abstract.
Check the submission instructions/guidelines/rules!
Think of the instructions/guidelines/rules as a roadmap on how to structure your abstract. For a successful abstract, follow the guidelines and address all points.
Think outside the box
Follow the guidelines but be original. How is your data different? How are you pushing the boundaries of human knowledge? Grab your readers attention.
Have a clear message
What is your major conclusion? Ensure all information in your abstract is directly pointing to your conclusion.
Tell the story 
Be clear on how your background information led to your methods, which led to your results, which led to your conclusion.
Why does it matter?
Contextualize your work in the bigger picture. Ask yourself and tell the reader why your research is important and what it might lead to.
Choose the right title
Grab the reader's attention and directly address your main conclusion. Use keywords in your title.
Know your audience 
Consider the research meeting or journal you are submitting your abstract to and write your abstract for their level of knowledge in the subject.
Ask for feedback!
Share your abstract with your supervisor, lab mates, colleagues, friends and ask them if the abstract reads as clear, concise, with minimal jargon, and proper sentence structure.

SELECTION PROCESS

All abstracts will be evaluated anonymously and scored by the Scientific Programme Committee and senior CSPT members. The Scientific Programme Committee will determine whether the abstract will be accepted for presentation, with consideration given to the author’s preference.

Abstracts will be judged on the following criteria:

Background/Objective - Is clearly stated and articulates the rational and objectives for the study.
Methods - The appropriate experimental design to generate data and statistical analysis.
Results – Should include a sufficient amount of new data that are consistent with the study objectives. The data should be presented in a way (e.g. include means and standard deviations, fold-changes and P values) that allows the reader to assess the magnitude and variation of treatments or interventions between study groups. Quantitative studies require numerical data in their abstracts. Qualitative data is also appropriate for submission.
Conclusion – Contains a brief statement interpreting the results and indicating the scientific/clinical significance.
Overall – The abstract should be succinct and clearly written and should present sufficiently new information that advances knowledge in the field.
