Social Media: Does it Have a Role in Career Development?

Hear from

Anastasia S. Mihailidou, PhD FAHA FCSANZ FESC

Senior Hospital Scientist, Department of Cardiology, Royal North Shore Hospital

Head, Cardiovascular & Hormonal Research Laboratory, Kolling Institute

Honorary Associate Professor, Macquarie University

Dr Anastasia Mihailidou is a Senior Hospital Scientist, who runs the Diagnostic Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring (ABPM) Clinical Service at one of the major teaching hospitals in Sydney and engages in both biomedical and clinical research as Head of the Cardiovascular & Hormonal Research Laboratory, Kolling Institute and Honorary Associate Professor, Macquarie University. Her research passion is accuracy of blood pressure measurement for self-management and prevention of hypertension and sex differences in hypertension. Anastasia’s career path has been non-traditional following her training in cardiovascular pharmacology and PhD. Her research skills in recovery surgery to induce heart failure and pharmacological studies in conscious dogs switched to conducting clinical trials for management of hypertension. During this period, she collaboratively translated ambulatory blood pressure from research to the clinical service she now runs. Anastasia then spent 10 years training in cellular electrophysiology before establishing her own biomedical laboratory. ecognition of her contribution to the hypertension field includes The Lancet appointing her to serve as one of the Commissioners for their Commission on Cardiovascular Disease in Women, her appointment on the Advisory Board of the STRIDE_BP to standardize blood pressure measurement, Nucleus member of the Working Group “Hypertension in Women” of the European Society of Hypertension, Member of the Council on Hypertenion of the European Society of Cardiology (2020-2024). Anastasia was on the High Blood Pressure Research Council of Australia (HBPRCA) Executive Committee and Chair of the International Society of Hypertension Communications Committee. Her recent appointment is member of the Clinical Council Committee for Hypertension Australia.
